Description

A lovely Meadow Beauty (Rhexia alifanus) grows wild on the pine savanna in the Croatan National Forest, eastern North Carolina. Aslo known as the Savanna Meadow Beauty and the Smooth Meadow Beauty, these perennial wildflowers are native to coastal North Carolina and the NC Coastal Plain.. They are also found south to Florida and west to Texas. These flowers are typically found in sandy, acidic soil such as is found on pine savannas, near poccosin areas and pine flatwoods.
