Description
An extreme close-up show a wild horse looking into the lens of the camera along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This black and white image was taken in the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve near Beaufort, NC. The eye of this wild mustang is the central theme with the textures created by its hair a secondary focus. These animals, descended from the Spanish Colonial stock used to explore North America by early European adventurers, have survived for over 500 years on these barrier islands. Once found on near all the islands along the North Carolina coast, as well as most of the eastern North American seaboard, are now only found in a few locations.
