Description
A Great Egret takes to wing over the wetands in along the Tideland Trail in the Croatan National Forest. The setting sun baths the marsh grass with golden light.
When I first spotted this large wading bird I was careful to approach slowly and quietly. I set-up my tripod and camera with the intention of photographing the big bird as it fed in the marsh. As the large wading bird was feeding a hiker came along and started it to wing. As the egret launched into flight I took a few shots. This was my favorite of the sequence.
These large wading birds are a common sight along North Carolina's Crystal Coast. They are frequently seen along with other members of the heron family wading and feeding along our coastal, river and estuary areas.
