Description
A small bright yellow and gray bird is preched on a limb in the Croatan National Forest. This is the Prothonotary Warbler, Protonotaria citrea. These colorful little birds make their home in hardwood swamps in the Eastern United States. For the Winter they migrate to Central and South America as well as the West Indies. There are plentiful swampy habitats for these birds in the Southeastern US. The Croatan National Forest, on the coastal plain of North Carolina, has many primare areas for these lovely wild birds to breed and raise their young.
