Description
An American White Ibis, Eudocimus albus, is chilling in a small swamp near the end of the main parking area at Fort Macon State Park, Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. These large white birds are quite common along the Crystal Coast. They can be found foraging in marshes, estuaries and even the yards of local residents. They typically feed in shallow water of eight inches or less. While their plumage is rather boring, their blue eyes are quite striking. With their orange legs and long curving bills, they are easy to identify.
