About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family hiking trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: 'To boldly go...' My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire for adventure and drive to explore the natural world that surrounds us. It is my belief that my fine art photography comes from the perspective of someone connected to nature, rather than that of a casual observer.
An award winning professional photographer making my home along North Carolina's Crystal Coast, my photos and articles have appeared in various local, regional and national publications. More recently I've been concentrating on wildlife, nature, avian, travel and adventure photography in and around the Carolinas. In a nutshell, I document the outdoors experience. My images often have a unique perspective as many are taken while kayaking, allowing for a point of view not frequently seen in nature photography. I am a former member of the Carolinas Nature Photography Association and, the Professional Photographers of America.
