Description
In this photograph we see a lovely Yellow Rumped Warbler perched atop Wax Myrtle at Fort Macon State Park. The branches are covered with bright red berries and dark green leaves. The wild bird is looking to the right hand side of the frame. A Carolina Blue sky provides the background to this color image.
A medium sized warbler, this species can be found throughout North America. There are four closely related varieties including the one pictured here, the Myrtle Warbler. While primarily feeding on insects these birds can also feed on wax myrtle berries and is the only warbler able to digest such waxy food. They also eat juniper berries, as well as wild seeds.
