Description
Located along Lola Road and sitting on National Refuge property, the tower was part of a US Navy communications center that was decommissioned in 1970. Opened only two years earier in 1968, the station was used to communicate with the Atlantic Fleet. Similar installations were located at Lewes, Deleware and Cape Cod, Massachuets. Today, all that remains is a 30 foot tall concrete tower, which serves as an aid to navigation for local mariners.
