Artist's Description
The Oceanana Fishing Pier is one of only two remaining public piers found on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Located in the village of Atlantic Beach, it is a popular spot with fishermen, surfers, and tourists alike. The rising value of beach property for the erection of beach homes, couple with the increased cost of reparing or replacing these wooden structures following storm damaage had resulted in the demise of many of these piers.
In this black and white photo the sky above the Atantic Ocean looks dramatic and possibly even threatening. The waves rolling in have been blurred by a long expsoure them, resulting in a smooth, cotton like quality to the rough surf. The pier its self seems to streatch to the horizon. Sand, pebbles, shells and sea foam adds texture to the foreground of the photo. This fine art photograph was created at sunset on June 08, 2021.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
