A young pine tree grows in the Croatan National Forest of eastern North Carolina. This pocosin area is home to a variety of plants and animals, including some exotic species. Carnivorous plants and wild orchids can be found springing up from this peat rich soil. The nearby pine savanna is the breeding ground for the endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker. Many species of birds and mammal call this forest their home.

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
