In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.

Artist's Description

When found away from the beach Live Oak trees are a majestic sight to be seen. But those that live among the dunes along Southern beaches are often dwarfed and shaped by the prevailing winds. Shown here is a group of LIve Oaks on the beach at Cedar Island, North Carolina. Over head storm clouds threaten rain. The trunks or these oaks are bent and curved towards the inland, They have been shaped by the winds coming off the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound. This beach is adjacent to the NC Ferry terminal where cars and their passengers are transported across the sound to Oakracoke Island. Substantially removed from the popular tourist beaches found at Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle, this remote beach is seldom crowded. There is a small herd of wild mustangs that roam this beach. Perhaps even more surprising, there is also a group of feral cows that inhabit the area.

About Bob Decker

Bob Decker

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
