Artist's Description
The Milky Way is seen between trees at the Cape Lookout Visitors Center on Harkers Island, North Carolina. The bight galactic center of our galaxy silhouettes the trees found on the east end of the park's headquarters. A popular location for local star gazers to set-up their telescopes, efforts are underway to have the park recognized as a dark sky location by the International Dark-Sky Association.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
