A Spotted Sandpiper is seen foraging along the shoreline at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. These attractive little shorebirds can be found throughout North America. Males incubate the eggs and provide the primary care for the young. In addition to coastal areas, these birds can be found along the edges of lakes, rivers and other freshwater areas.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
