An old International Scout 4X4 sit abandoned in an old, rustic metal pole barn. A large tractor tire leans against the side of the old structure. This rusting old building was found along the backroads in Pamlico County, North Carolina. The area has a long history of agriculture and commercial fishing. The nearby community of Oriental is a popular layover for sailboaters traveling the Intracoastal Waterway and exploring the Neuse river. Other local towns include Grantboro, Arapahoe and Minnesott Beach.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
