A young fox kit sits next to the entrance of its den on Carrot Island across from Beaufort, North Carolina. This island is part of the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve and is also home to wild horses, raccoons and a variety of shore birds. The den is dug into the sand next to a sand dune. Wild grass can be seen in the background.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
