Thick, narrow, arched doorways lead from room to room in historic Fort Macon State Park. These four-foot thick brick walls were designed to resist gun and cannon fire during 19th century battles.
Located near Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, this is one of the state's most visited state parks. Displays inside the fort and the on-site visitors center provide insight into the history of this historic fortress. This popular recreation area also offers fishing, hiking and swimming. Fort Macon is a popular destination for bird watchers and nature lovers.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
