A close-up of one of the many brass bolts holding the huge wooden doors of Fort Macon's front gate together. A Civil War era fort, the structure and surrounding ground in now one of North Carolina's State Parks. Located at the eastern tip of Bogue Banks, the fort overlooks Beaufort Inlet and the Atlantic Ocean.

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
