This rustic barn sits along Nine Mile Road in Carteret County, North Carolina. Though it has faded, flaking paint and a damaged metal roof, the old structure still has a lot of charm. On the front of the barn the works "Daddy's Barn" in large white letters suggest it may have once served as someone's man cave. The grass around the large shed suggests there is still some love for this country property. One can only wonder why it's being allowed to fall into disarray.
I learned a bit more about this building. It seems it once housed some kind of entertainment. The specific quote was "best place to have a beer and some entertainment." It was also a country store at one time, selling local craft items etc. It's been about 30 years since it was in use.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
