In this color photograph a lovely Gray Fox is seen in an on alert posture as it looks towards the camera. Smaller than their Red Fox cousins, these were once the most common fox in the eastern United States. Due to deforestation and the expansion of human occupation their numbers have shrank. In contrast Red Foxes have flourished in suburban and even urban areas.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
