A long wooden footbridge transports hikers over the salt marsh on the Tideland Trail. Located in the Cedar Point Recreation Area, Croatan National Forest, this well maintained path if popular with local bird watchers and dog walkers. Passing through wetlands along the White Oak river, and though Maritime forest, it provides excellent opportunity for a nice outdoor adventure. Many species of small song birds can be observed here as well as larger wading birds, herons and egrets. Osprey, frequently referred to as "Sea Hawks" or "Fish Eagles," are often observed. EVen the mighty Bald Ealge makes and appearence from time to time.

Located near the western edge of Carteret county, aka the Crystal Coast, the recreational area offeres more than just hiking. I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
