Artist's Description
The Elliot Coues Nature Trail is a three and a quarter mile loop trail in Fort Macon State Park, Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. Thie relatively easy hike passes through maritime forest, past salt marsh and through the dune zone along the beach. In the wooded sections hikers are treated to a number of beautiful Live Oak and Red Cedar trees. There are also several nice views of the wetlands as well as a marsh pond where herons and egrets often gather. The beach portion of the loop passes over and through the dune zone with views of the beach, Atlantic Ocean and Beaufort Inlet. This well maintained path is popular with bird watchers, dog walkers, mountain bicyclists and other nature lovers.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
