Artist's Description
An old, derelict doc is shrouded by heavy fog along the Neuse River near Oriental, North Carolina. The skeleton of trees can be seen on the bank next to the ancient pier. The trees are reflected on the smooth surface of the water.
This small riverside community is well know as a sailing destination. Snow birds traversing the Intracoastal Waterway frequently my Oriental a lay-over point on their travels. There are several marinas located in this small town.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
