In this black and white photography a rustic tobacco barn is pictured in a state of near collapse. It looks as if even breathing hard on this structure would result in its demise. Found along a back road in Pamlico county North Carolina, these old buildings are becoming harder and harder to find. With the reduction in tobacco use and an increase in corporate farming, these historic structures are frequently abandoned and forgotten.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
