Artist's Description
In the Summer the Croatan National Forest gets very thick and green. Deciduous trees struggle for survival anoung the predominate pines. Thick underbrush covers the forest floor. There is beauty to be found in the chaos of the woodlands.
An old access roads createa a long, narrow grassy meadow in this North Carolina woodlands. Wildflowers flourish in the open sunlit area. Butterflies flit from blossom to blossom while dragonflies stalk their next meal. Such is life in the forest.
The Croatan National Forest occupies acerage in three eastern NC counties - Carteret, Craven and Jones. In it are several unique environments, forest, swamp, poccosin, and savanna. It is a wonderful natural resource for nature lovers, sportmen, hikers, photographers and artists.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
