Artist's Description

An abandoned farm house sits in ruins along a rural country road in Carteret County, eastern North Carolina. Nature is slowly reclaiming this old homestead, returning the materials to the earth. Sometime in the past this old structure was likely filled with the laughter of children and the sighs of exhaustion by their parents after a hard days work at farming. Time moves on. Properties change hands. New homes are erected and old one left to decay. Such is the natural march or time.

Bob Decker

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
