A cypress tree stands sentry along the banks of the Neuse river in eastern North Carolina. Near the Pine Cliffs recreation area, this is part of the Croatan National Forest. Patches of blue sky interlaced with gray and white clouds provide a background. The river and its sandy bank can be seen in the lower third of the photograph.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
