Artist's Description

Here's a view down a forest access road in the Croatan National Forest. It is early March and only hints of Spring can be found. The late afternoon light, coming in from the side, adds depth and deminsion to the image. Dominated by Long Leaf Pines, the smaller deciduous growth struggles for real estate in this this woodland. This Federally owned land insures the preservation of natural areas along coastal North Carolina.

Bob Decker

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
