Artist's Description
A view from the boardwalk overlook at the end of the trail in the Lathan-Whitehurst Nature Preserve in Craven county near New Bern, North Carolina. It's spring time and the red and yellow buds of deciduous provide a colorful contrast to the deep green of the pine evergreens behind them. Gold-brown marsh grass growing in front of the trees adds additional depth and color to the scene.
This county park offers a number of well maintained hiking trails. The primary trail terminates with a boardwalk and overlook of Little Broad Creek. The site is a favorite of locals for dog walking, jogging and bird watching. Park benches along the paths provide nice locations to rest and observe the wonders of nature in eastern North Carolina.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
