Artist's Description
A view of the Atlantic Ocean at sunset from beneath a fishing pier located along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. These piers were once common sights in coastal areas along the Eastern Seaboard. Today they are being sold off, disassembled and replaced with condos, beach houses and hotels. I feel it's important to document these pieces of culture before the all disappear.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
