A wild horse stands alert on top of a sand dune on an Outer Banks island along the North Carolina coast. Silhouetted, sunlight highlights the mane on this powerful animal. With ears erect and a strong, upright posture the horse appears to be alert and watchful. Descendants of Spanish Colonial stock, these large animals have made a home on the barrier islands for nearly five centuries.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
