While visiting the Hoop Pole Creek Nature Reserve, Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, I found this lovely Live Oak with wild strawberries blossoming a few yards in front of it. I thought it seemed like a perfect Spring image in the maritime forest.

Hoop Pole Creek, sometimes known as the "Central Park of Atlantic Beach, is a small nature reserve featuring an easy hiking trail. The path leads through the maritime forest and out to the estuary behind it. The preserve is an excellent example of the forest that once covered the barrier islands off the NC coast.

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
