A popular hining trail runs next to Island Creek in the Croatan National Forest in Jones County, North Carolina. This view looks down the slow moving stream just off the walking path. This section of the national forest consists of deciduous forest in contrast to the long leaf pine forest that occupies so much of this National reserve. The trail head and parking area can be found between Pollocksville and New Bern in eastern NC.Potential wildlife encounters include Whitetail Deer, Black Bear, Raccoon, Opossum and Gray Squirrel. This woodlands recreational area can also be a good location for bird watching.

As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
