This color photograph depicts a wild horse... a mare... standing on top of a sand dune in the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve near Beaufort, NC. I overlaid an image of a texture to give the photo a more painterly appearance. The photo features soft hues of blue, green, tan and brown. My position below this lovely wild horse gives her a stronger, more dominate appearance that would've been accomplished had we been on level ground. I especially enjoy the textures found in this photo, both the texture of the subject's coat and that of the overlay.

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
