This lovely Live Oak tree is just a few yards off of the Hoop Pole Creek Nature trail in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. This short hiking path, maintained by the NC Coastal Federation can be found across from the Bojangles restaurant along Highway 58 (also known as Fort Macon Road). This trail features boardwalks and a paved path for most of its length. The walkway switches to sand as it reaches an overlook of an esturary area.
The limbs and branches of this tree twist and turn upwards towards the sky. The floor below is covered by thick, green vines. The dominate colors in the photo are green, with the dark brown, black and grey of the trunk and limbs. The sky peaking through the foliage is predominantly blue/grey as the photo was taken on a raining June afternoon.

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...

Without any obstructions, the tree is free to whichever direction it may want to grow. I like the way you included many branches with the tree in the center. Nice shot, Bob. l/f
