A wave breaks as it near the beach at Fort Macon State Park. Beaufort Inlet, the final resting place of Black Beard's flagship "the Adventure," can be quite rough at times.
The park sits on the east end of a barrier island named Bogue Banks. The island is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side, Core Sound on the other, Beaufort Inlet on one end and Bogue Inlet on the others. The region is known as the Crystal Coast or the Southern Outer Banks.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
