Artist's Description
This black and white photo provides a view from the summit parking lot and overlook in Pilot Mountain State Park. A top the Little Pinnacle, an adjacent hiking trail leads to and around the well know Big Pinnacle or "the Knob" that most associate with this geologic feature. The Saura Native Americans' name for the mountain was "Jomeokee," which translates to the great guide. Indigenous people used the "Big Pinnacle" as a navigational tool. Several trails offer exploration opportunities to hikers. One of these trails being a section of the Mountains to Sea trail. This distinctive geologic feature is North or Winston-Salem and can be seen from U.S. Route 52. Pilot Mountain is a remnant of the ancient Sauratown Mountain chain.

I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
