Description
An intimate close-up of a wild horse on Carrot Island along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. A telephoto lens was used to make this image. It is important to give wild mustangs plenty of space both for your safety and theirs.
In this black and white image the animal's eye is the focus of the composition. The textures of its hair adds to the intimate feel.
Wild horses have made a home along the Outer Banks for over five centuries. They are ancestors of the Spanish Colonial horses left behind by early European explorers. While some claim the original population were survivors of a shipwreck, it is more likley they were simply left behind when the explorers started their return to the Old Wolrd.
