A fisherman stands in the surf at sunset with the Bogue Inlet fishing pier silhouetted against the colorful sky in the background. Taken in early December at the Crystal Coast beach town of Emerald Isle, oranges and blues are the dominate colors in this photograph. This location is considered the southern end of North Carolina's Outer Banks. The barrier islands making up the Crystal coast are frequently referred to as the Southern Outer Banks.
Twenty years ago there were six fishing piers along this barrier island's shore. Only two of those remain today, one at each end of the island. The Oceanana Pier can be found near the northeast end at Atlantic Beach, and this one, the Bogue Inlet Pier, is located on the southwestern end in the town of Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river.
