Sometimes referred to the Southern Outer Banks or the Crystal Coast, Bogue Banks is a barrier island along the Coast of east central North Carolina. At the northern end of the island the beach community of Atlantic Beach is found. The view here is seen from next to the Oceanana Fishing Pier looking southward along the beach. An early morning in mid-September the beach is nearly void of tourists and beach combers. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day this stretch of sand is typically busy with sunbthers, swimmers, juggers, dog walkers and surf fishermen. The area will remain busy thoughout Autum and Winter on the weekends but be enjoyed mostly by locals during the week. It is a rare treat to have the beach to ones self.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
