One drizzly March morning I came upon this lovely Summer Snowflake (leucojum aestivum) or Loddon Lilly growing wild along a forest road in the Croatan National Forest in eastern North Carolina. Native to Europe this lovely little white bell shaped flowers have become naturalized in the eastern United States. A perennial plant they have adapted to the local environment. In this color photograph the leaves and blooms are dotted with water droplets.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
