Artist's Description
This color photograph provides a look at the longleaf pine savanna found in the Croatan National Forest. The textures and patterns of a pine tree trunks dominates the front left hand area of the image with a look at the tall trees making up the forest extending into the distance. Once the dominate ecosystem found on the coastal plain of the southeastern United States, it now only occupies about a quarter of its original range.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
