Description
Soco Falls is a double waterfalls located a short drive off of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Maggie Valley and Cherokee, North Carolina. The scramble down to the foot of the falls is not for the faint of heart. There is, however, an easily accessed viewing platform above the gorge. A small parking area along the highway will accommodate six or eight cars. A short, easy hike brings visitors to the observation area. Once one of the hidden jewels of Western North Carolina, this water feature has become a popular stop for people visiting the Great Smoky Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway.
To me, a life long adventurer, the scramble to the base of the falls is well worth the risk. It is a beautiful view down there. The sound and sight of falling, rushing water a treat for the senses. It is probably a fools errand to try to capture the beauty of such places with a camera but it is a challenge I'm always willing to take.
