Description
A pretty little scallop shell is surrounded by the receding water of a wave. Perhaps the wave brought the shell to the beach or maybe it has withstood other waves washing over it.
This digital photo was made on the beach at Emerald Isle, North Carolina at an area known as the Point. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Bogue Inlet, it is a large, sandy area with many dunes. In the Spring and Summer shore birds nest and raise their young in the dunes. A dynamic eecosystem, the dunescape and shoreline is in a constant state of change along the coast.
