Description
These sea oats look striking with the blue sky behind them. An essential vegetation to guard against sand erosion, these hardy plants thrive just beyond the surf zone of the beach. This image was take at the junction of the fisherman's path and the Elliot Coues Nature Trail in Fort Macon State Park. The path leads from the road to the large rock jetty which is a popular fising location. The trail is a 3.5 mile loop leading through the various environments found inside the park.
Fort Macon is located on Bogue Banks in the sea side community of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. The area, known as the Crystal Coast or the Southern Outer Banks, is a popluar vaccation destination.. It is one of the world's best know wreck diving locations as well as offerning world-class inshore and offshore salt water fishing. Another attraction are the three herds of wild horses living on local islands. Beaufort, the county seat, has frequently been listed as one of the best small towns in America. It is little wonder that the Crystal Coast is such a popular destination.
