Description
Sculpted by wind and sea, this Live Oak tree reminds one of a hand crafted Bonzai tree. Bent and shaped by Noreasters and stunted by the salty envivonment in which it lives, Live Oaks living here are lucky to reach a height of ten feet.
While exploring the beach at the end of Cedar Island, North Carolina, I was awe struck by the beauty of these trees. Their unique shapes giving the impression of being someplace exotic, foreign, remote.
Access to this beach is found at the NC Wildlife Commission boat ramp adjacent to the Cedar Island Ferry terminal. In addition to the enchanting trees growing in this area, wild horses and cows wander the beack and dunes. The location is also excellent for bird watchers seeking to view shorebirds, egrets and herons.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
