Description
The scene across the courtyard at Fort Macon is perfectly reflected in this window. A stack of cannon balls and a stairway leading to the ramparts can be clearly seen in the reflection.
Fort Macon was built in 1836. It was garrisoned during the Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War Two. Today it is one of the featured attractions at the NC state park bearing its name. The property features a nice, undeveloped beach, hiking trails and a visitor center in addition to the old fortress. Fort Macon State Park is certainly one of the crown jewels of the Crystal Coast.
