I made this macro photograph of a lovely Purple Anemone flower in the gardens of Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina. These lovely flowers are symbolic of love, respect, excitement and anticipation. Based on Victorian standards this might be an appropriate gift to give someone you've been dying to see or, perhaps, a forsaken love.
Also known as the windflower or poppy windflower. The blooms close at night, reopening in the morning. There are over 120 varieties of these this flower and they come in many different colors. They are frequently among the first flowers to bloom in the Spring and are often seen as a sign of the beginning of the new season.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
