I've always been a little jealous of the photographers that are in a location where they can capture images of Aspen trees. WE've all seen those lovely abstract Aspen photos crated with purposeful motion of the camera. While visiting the local pine savanna in the Croatan National Forest I recognized the similarits of the scene in front of me to those of an Aspen forest. I decided to give a motion blur photo a try.. I think the result was reasonably nice. Somewhat rreminiscent of an impressionistic painting.
The Croatan National Forest is located in eastern North Carolina. It occupies land in three counties, Carteret, Cravem and Jone. The forest includes pine savanna, poccosin, wetland, and mixed forest environments. The 21 mile Neusiok Trail runs through the Croatan. The forest also includes a section of the state wide Mountains to Sea trail.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
