Description
The front of this old barn is a colorful patchwork of different building materials. The decaying shed puts one in mind of a hand made quilt. Found in rural Onslow county, between Swansboro and Jacksonville, it appears the structure is still in use despite the deterioration. One can only imagine what it looked like when it was new and the pride of the farm.
Many older buildings are slowly degrading only to be replaced by pre-fab metal structures. These newer marvels of modern engineering certainly lack the charm found in the custom built wooden barns of by-gone years. The spread of corporate farming is certainly taking a toll on the quaint, picturesque scenery provided by the traditional family farm.
