Artist's Description
Found in the eastern North Carolina community of Hobucken, and old dock stretches across a narrow canal, apparently forgoteen by time. Several small trees are springing up from the old structure. Behind it a tall tree draped in Spanish Moss.
Hobucken is an unincorporated town in Pamlico county. It had less than 40 residents according to the 2020 US Census. Nestled against Jones Bay of the Pamlico Sound the community has a commercial fishing tradition. There is also a US Coast Guard Station located there.

When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
